Unit Cell: SC, BCC and FCC

Unit cell:
Unit cell is a small volume of a crystal that can be used to reproduce the entire crystal.

Primitive cell
It is the smallest unit cell that can be repeated to form a lattice.

Non-primitive cell:
It is also known as multiple cell, the unit cell containing more than one lattice point.

Three Basic structures of Unit cell is given below:
  • Simple cubic: It has an atom located at each corner. Fig-a
  • Body-centered cubic (bcc): It has an additional atom at the center of the simple cubic. Fig-b
  • Face-centered cubic (fcc): It has additional atoms on each face plane of the body-centered cubic. Fig-c
